Fotopro P-2A carbon center column (extendable)

Fotopro P-2A Carbon center column when your tripod just needs to go a bit higher

You know the situation: the subject is perfect, the light is spot on, but your tripod stops 60 centimeters too early. That’s exactly where the Fotopro P-2A carbon center column comes in. This extendable center column gives your tripod up to 63 cm of additional height without you having to buy a completely new tripod. A small extension that makes a surprisingly big difference in practice.

Lightweight carbon construction for mobile work

The center column is made entirely of carbon. Not just “any” carbon, but a pleasantly rigid, low-vibration material that really pays off in everyday use. We’re talking only 120 g in weight, about as much as a small lens-cap chaos in your camera bag. You hardly notice it in your backpack, yet you still have a fully fledged extension tool for your tripod with you.

Compact transport length, quickly stowed, quickly ready to use

Collapsed, the Fotopro P-2A carbon center column measures 264 mm. That’s short enough to easily pack it into most camera backpacks, side pockets or even a slightly larger shoulder bag. We think this is exactly the kind of accessory you “just always have with you” because it takes up hardly any space but makes all the difference at the crucial moment.

Extendable to an impressive 636 mm

Fully extended, the center column reaches a length of 636 mm. This allows you to increase the tripod height by up to 63 cm, which is extremely practical especially for people photography, shooting over crowds, or architectural photography. Suddenly you can get above fences, railings, or heads without acrobatic contortions and without wobbly improvised solutions.

Stable diameters for safe operation

The center column uses a minimum tube diameter of 16 mm and a maximum diameter of 22 mm. This combination provides a good balance between stability and weight. The tubes are slim enough to remain lightweight but robust enough not to start vibrating immediately even with heavier setups. This really pays off especially with longer focal lengths or when shooting video.

High load capacity up to 10 kg

Despite its low own weight, the Fotopro P-2A carbon center column is designed for a maximum load of 10 kg. That’s easily enough for a DSLR or mirrorless camera with a heavy telephoto lens, a video head, or even a somewhat more extensive rig. We’d say: for typical photo and video configurations, this load capacity keeps you on the safe side without constantly having to calculate whether it will still “work”.

Flexible mounts on top: 1/4" and 3/8" UNC threads

At the top, the center column offers both a 1/4" and a 3/8" UNC thread. This means you can mount common ball heads, video heads, quick-release adapters, or other accessories directly without having to look for special adapters. Especially if you use multiple systems or heads, this flexibility is worth its weight in gold: just screw it on, tighten it, and get started.

Practical connection at the bottom: 3/8" UNC female thread

At the bottom, a 3/8" UNC female thread is integrated. This allows you to attach the Fotopro P-2A carbon center column directly to compatible tripods or adapt it to other systems via a suitable adapter. This way, your existing tripod is transformed into a significantly taller setup in no time, without you having to completely rethink your entire equipment concept.

Who the Fotopro P-2A carbon center column is particularly useful for

This extendable center column is ideal for anyone who is often on location, wants to travel light, and still doesn’t want to sacrifice flexible working heights. Landscape photography at sunrise, street reportages, event and concert photography, video interviews—wherever you sometimes need “just a little more” height, this column plays to its strengths. And yes, it may sound exaggerated, but we keep experiencing that exactly these few extra centimeters can completely change the impact of an image.
