Leofoto LPS-A9III L-bracket for Sony Alpha A9 III
Leofoto LPS-A9III L-bracket for Sony Alpha A9 III, specially developed for this camera
The Leofoto LPS-A9III L-bracket is not just some universal DIY solution, but deliberately tailored to the Sony Alpha 9 III (ILCE-9M3). The contour follows the camera body precisely, so the bracket feels like a fixed part of the camera and twist protection is practically built in. Nothing wobbles, nothing shifts, even if you align the combination a bit more roughly on the tripod head from time to time.
Despite the close-fitting design, access to all important ports of the Sony Alpha 9 III is maintained. You can plug in cables for tethering, HDMI or remote release without having to remove the L-bracket. That may sound trivial, but in everyday use it makes an enormous difference when you want to work quickly in the studio or on location and don’t want to constantly fiddle with the plate.
With a width of 14.7 cm, a height of 8.7 cm and a depth of 6.6 cm, the L-bracket is compact enough not to bulk up the camera unnecessarily, while at the same time offering sufficient contact area for a stable connection with tripod heads and clamps. The black anodized finish protects the 6061-T6 aluminum from scratches and corrosion and ensures that the L-bracket remains visually discreet and matches the camera design well.
Arca-style compatible, seamlessly integrable into your existing system
The LPS-A9III is ARCA compatible and thus ready for immediate use with a wide range of common quick-release systems. According to the manufacturer, the clamping profile fits 38 mm Arca-style compatible quick-release clamps and works, among others, with Wimberley clamps, Really Right Stuff screw and lever clamps, as well as Kirk clamps. As a rule, you therefore don’t need to buy a new base, but can simply integrate the L-bracket into your existing setup.
Both the horizontal and vertical sides of the L-bracket are designed for the Arca-style standard, so you can switch your Sony Alpha 9 III from landscape to portrait orientation in a matter of seconds without having to completely rebuild your framing. The camera remains above the tripod’s center of gravity, which allows for noticeably smoother handling, especially with longer focal lengths or during continuous shooting.
On the underside you will also find a 3/8" UNC tripod thread and a 1/4" UNC tripod thread. This allows you to mount the L-bracket directly on a tripod, a video plate or other accessories that are not based on Arca-style if required. This flexibility is helpful when you switch between different systems or occasionally work with rental equipment.
With QD strap socket, quickly switch between tripod and carrying strap
The LPS-A9III features a QD strap socket, more precisely a single QD-compatible socket. This allows you to use a suitable strap with QD strap anchors to switch your Sony Alpha 9 III in no time from tripod operation to shoulder or sling carry. To use this socket, you need a strap with QD strap anchors, which you can purchase separately here.
In addition to the QD socket, there is a classic strap eyelet. This allows you to either continue using your existing camera strap or set up a hybrid configuration consisting of a QD strap and an additional safety tether. Especially for reportage, sports or wildlife, this flexibility is very pleasant because you can carry the camera securely and still detach it quickly when it matters.
Modular design, removable and laterally extendable L-component
The LPS-A9III has a modular design. The L-component can be completely removed if necessary, so you can also use the bracket as a simple camera plate without the L-component. This tip is particularly practical when you want to travel very compactly or frequently store the camera in bags with a tight interior. You don’t have to switch to a different plate; you simply remove the side part.
The laterally extendable L-component also allows you to fine-tune the setup for different cable or accessory situations. For example, if you use a slightly larger HDMI or tethering cable, you can pull the side part slightly outward to create more space for connectors and strain relief. This way, access to all camera ports is always ensured without having to forego the advantages of vertical mounting.
Despite its modularity, the construction remains stable. The form-fitting adaptation to the camera body prevents twisting, and the robust 6061-T6 aluminum ensures high torsional rigidity. In practice, this means that even with frequent switching between landscape and portrait orientation or during longer sessions on the tripod, alignment remains reliable and repeatable.
Portrait and landscape on the tripod, precise, fast and without detours
With this modular L-bracket you can mount your Sony Alpha 9 III both horizontally and vertically on a tripod head with Arca-style standard. The camera is placed directly into the quick-release clamp each time, without you having to unscrew the plate or awkwardly tilt the head. This saves time and reduces the risk of your framing shifting unintentionally.
In practice, it works like this: you compose your subject in landscape orientation, take the shot, briefly open the clamp, place the camera with the vertical side into the same clamp, close it again, and continue working in portrait orientation. Especially for architecture, portrait or landscape photography, this smooth transition is invaluable because you can focus on light, subject and timing instead of screws and levers.
Thanks to the stable contact surface of the L-bracket, the camera remains well balanced even in portrait orientation. This relieves the tripod head and reduces the risk of the setup slowly sagging or giving way when lightly bumped. The laser-engraved sensor center mark additionally helps you with precise alignment when you want to be extremely accurate.
Robust material and precise workmanship, built for continuous use
Made from 6061-T6 aluminum, the LPS-A9III combines relatively low weight with high stability. This material is also used in aircraft construction and is known for its good combination of rigidity and durability. The black anodized finish protects the surface from wear and gives the L-bracket a discreet, low-reflection look that blends unobtrusively into professional setups.
The edges are cleanly finished so that the camera rests securely without any sharp spots getting in the way. At the same time, there is enough grip to prevent the L-bracket from slipping in clamps and on heads. The form-fitting adaptation to the Sony Alpha 9 III body ensures that the contact area is large and stable, reducing the risk of micro-movements.
A magnetic holder for the supplied hex key is integrated into the design. This means you always have the tool right on the L-bracket when you want to loosen, move or remove the L-component. No searching in the backpack, no “Where has that little key gone again?”, it simply stays on the system where it belongs.
Thought-out details for everyday photography, from sensor center mark to extra threads
The laser-engraved sensor center mark on the L-bracket makes it easier to align the camera precisely on the tripod. This mark is particularly helpful when you want to work very accurately, for example in architecture or when creating image series. It is also almost indispensable for panoramic photography, because you can orient yourself to the sensor center to plan pivot points and overlaps precisely.
The combination of 1/4" and 3/8" UNC tripod threads on the underside opens up additional possibilities. For example, you can attach a magic arm, a small video head, a rail or other accessories directly to the L-bracket without removing the camera plate. This is useful if you want to integrate a field monitor, an audio recorder or an additional mount.
The existing strap eyelet complements the QD strap socket and gives you the freedom to use different carrying systems in parallel or alternately. This allows you to gradually put together exactly the setup that suits your way of working instead of being tied to a single solution.
Flexible use as an L-bracket or as a compact camera plate
Because the LPS-A9III has a modular design, you can configure it differently depending on the situation. If you frequently switch between landscape and portrait orientation, you use it as a complete L-bracket. If, on the other hand, you want to travel very light or store the camera in an especially tight bag, you remove the L-component and use only the base plate.
This base plate naturally remains Arca-style compatible and fits the clamps and quick-release systems mentioned. You therefore don’t have to switch back and forth between different plates, but simply adapt the existing L-bracket to your needs. At first glance this may seem like a small detail, but in everyday use it makes a noticeable difference because you have fewer parts to carry and manage.
All in all, with the Leofoto LPS-A9III you get an L-bracket that is not only well made, but also thoughtfully designed down to the details and integrates seamlessly into both professional and ambitious setups. If you want to use your Sony Alpha 9 III seriously on a tripod, this accessory is a very well-matched addition.
