Leofoto MT-02C + LH-22: small, but not squeamish
You know how it is: you “just quickly” want to take a photo and bam, everything’s shaking. That’s exactly where the Leofoto MT-02C+LH-22 mini tripod plays its trump card. It’s the kind of thing you like to have with you because it doesn’t get in the way. Tiny. And still surprisingly load-bearing.
With a maximum working height of 0.2 m it deliberately stays close to the ground or on the table – that’s what it’s made for. And yes, it really does fit in your pocket, at least in your jacket anyway. At the same time, it can carry a camera with a telephoto lens without much fuss. That sounds bold at first, but it works.
Carbon legs with 10 layers: stiff, light, everyday-ready
The tripod legs are made of ten-times wound carbon, and you can tell. The legs are 15 mm thick, which gives the mini tripod solid stiffness without turning it into a brick. The total weight is only 0.213 kg. In short: you take it with you because it doesn’t become a burden. Period.
Each leg has one segment, so no fiddling with multiple extensions. Set it up, align it, done. Sometimes simple really is just better, right?
Leg angles 30°, 60° or 85°: every corner gets its shot
Depending on the situation, you set the leg spread angle to 30°, 60° or 85°. And you do that on each leg individually. Adjustment is via a knurled ring at the top of the legs, pleasantly grippy even when it’s cold or you’re in a bit of a hurry. This way you can use the MT-02C as a three-legged tripod, as a table tripod, as a ground-level tripod, as a classic mini tripod – basically as whatever is needed at the moment. Sounds like marketing, but in everyday use it’s genuinely practical.
The minimum working height is 8.5 cm. For low-angle perspectives that’s worth its weight in gold – a bit like “camera at eye level with the asphalt”. And yes, that often looks better than you’d think.
1/4" UNC photo thread: flexible for heads and accessories
On top there is a 1/4" UNC photo-thread mounting bolt. This lets you adapt different tripod heads if you ever want to switch. In this set, however, the matching ball head is already included, so you don’t have to start puzzling things together first.
LH-22 ball head: precise adjustment, secure clamping
The LH-22 ball head is rated for a maximum load of 5.0 kg. The ball has a diameter of 22 mm, and according to the specs the manufacturing tolerance is 0.01 mm. That’s the kind of number that makes you pause for a second, but in practice it means: you can align the camera very precisely, and once you clamp it, it stays put. Not “roughly”, but really.
The clamping knob is large and ergonomic, not a tiny little dial that insults your fingers. The base of the ball head measures 30 mm in diameter and also has a 1/4" mounting thread. Fits. Locks. Doesn’t wobble. Well, at least not because of the head.
Arca-style compatible clamp: on fast, off fast
The clamp is Arca-style compatible and, according to the manufacturer, accepts a 38 mm dovetail. The matching PU-25 quick-release plate is already included. You can leave it firmly screwed to the camera via the 1/4" thread, and mounting via the clamp then becomes pleasantly quick. Click on. Click off. Without having to screw it on anew every time.
Material mix that makes sense: 6061-T6 aluminum meets carbon
For materials, Leofoto uses 6061-T6 aluminum and ten-times wound carbon. It’s a mix that has proven itself: aluminum where precise parts and threads are located, carbon where stiffness with low weight matters. We like that because it doesn’t look like “show” but like a tool. And a tool can certainly look good, but above all it has to work.
